Location Maps Tab

Use the Location Maps tab for campaign-scale geography: world, region, town, and travel maps.

What This Tab Is For

  • strategic travel context between sessions
  • persistent place references for players
  • route planning that should not clutter tactical battle maps

When to Use

  • preparing overland travel routes and destination options
  • tracking discovered locations over a long campaign
  • sharing strategic map context with players between sessions

When Not to Use

  • turn-by-turn tactical combat positioning
  • temporary combat-only token placement
  • measuring encounter movement and spell templates

Toolbar

  • Add Map: opens the map creation form and uploads the source image
  • Select: default mode for choosing existing pins and routes
  • Add Pin: click the map to place a new pin
  • Route: click to place ordered route stops
  • New Route: starts a fresh route group while route mode is active

Map Creation Form

  • Name and Map Type
  • Image upload
  • Description
  • Shared with players toggle
  • Allow player pins toggle
  • Grid settings:
    • mode: square or hex
    • size
    • X/Y offsets
    • opacity
    • color

Viewer Controls

  • Zoom: Fit, 100%, -, +
  • Grid visibility toggle
  • Grid mode cycle: square/hex
  • Grid settings popover (saveable)
  • Delete Map

Details Drawer

When a pin is selected:

  • edit label, type, visibility, and notes
  • reveal DM-only pins to players
  • view creator and created/updated timestamps
  • delete pin
  • delete route for grouped route stops

Player Visibility Model

  • DM only: hidden from players
  • Shared: visible to players on shared maps
  • Revealed: explicitly shown to players

Common Workflow

  1. Add a region or world map and set it shared.
  2. Place landmark pins as DM only.
  3. Reveal pins as the party discovers locations.
  4. Add a route before travel-heavy sessions.
