Use Maps and Tokens

This guide covers how to use maps and tokens for encounters in SDMT, including uploading maps, placing tokens, and managing visibility.

Goal

By the end of this guide, you can:

  • upload and display a map
  • add, move, and remove tokens
  • control token visibility (hidden, fogged, visible, defeated)
  • use the grid and scale tools

1. Open the Maps Tab

  1. Click the Maps tab in the main navigation.

2. Upload or Select a Map

  1. Click 'Upload Map' to add a new map, or select an existing map from the list.

  2. Adjust the grid and scale as needed for your encounter.

3. Place Tokens on the Map

  1. Open the token sidebar.

  2. Drag tokens onto the map to represent PCs, NPCs, or monsters.

4. Manage Token Visibility

  1. Use the sidebar controls to set tokens as hidden, fogged, visible, or defeated.

  2. Confirm players only see what they should during the session.

5. Move and Remove Tokens

  1. Drag tokens to move them on the map.

  2. Remove tokens by dragging them off the map or using the sidebar controls.

6. Save Encounter Layouts (Optional)

  1. Save the current token layout as an encounter preset for reuse.

Tips

  • Use the grid tool to align tokens for tactical play.
  • Use fog and hidden states to control what players see.
  • Save time by reusing encounter presets for recurring battles.
